74 people rescued from sinking motor banca in Cebu

74 people were rescued off Gilutungan Island, Cordova after motorbanca "Meme 5" sank due to engine trouble and big waves damaging its hull. 

PH Coast Guard vessel BRP Capone was sent off to the area this morning to save 69 passengers including an infant and children. The 5 crew members were all accounted for also.

Seized Ukay2x worth P7.5M for Ompong victims

Some P7.5 Million worth of confiscated used clothing, branded overruns (or ukay-ukay)  will be given to victims of Super Typhoon Ompong in Luzon. 

The confiscated shipment at the Port of Cebu were turned over to the DSWD upon the orders of President Rodrigo Duterte.

Comelec: Gwen Garcia's name will still appear in ballot

Provincial Elections Supervisor Lionell Castillano says the disqualification cases hurled against Cebu Rep. Gwen Garcia may take a long time before reaching a decision. 

Hence, her name will still be in the ballots when it is printed in December this year and she will still continue to be a candidate with the absence of a decision from the Comelec. 

Two disqualification cases were filed Monday, October 22 by lawyer Edgar Gica and from the camp of Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale, one of Garcia's opponent in the 2019 elections for Governor.

Sara Duterte endorses two Cebu Governor bets

Presidential daughter Sara Duterte-Carpio's Hugpong Ng Pagbabago forged alliances with Hugpong Mandauehanon Ng Pagbabago of Mandaue Mayor Luigi Quisumbing.

She said these alliances are to rally support mainly for Senatoriables who will help the Duterte administration.

In the local scene, Sara said she will support both the candidacies of Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale and Rep. Gwen Garcia for Governor of Cebu. She will not endorse an official candidate and just let people choose during the Elections.

Ship collision injures 4 in Cebu

Another ship collision in Lauis Ledge along Mactan Channel injured four passengers of Tubigon-bound MV Fastcat, Thursday night, October 18.

It is the same site where a deadly ship collision happened years ago. 

PCG-7 responders took care of the injured pasengers during last night's sea mishap.

Police to reenact shooting that killed 5

Police will reenact the events that took place in the Malubog killings as part of their investigation (and based on the accounts of one "cooperative" survivor).

One of the 5 people killed in Malubog, Cebu City is a call center agent whom relatives claim to have no ties to the illegal drug trade. 

Commission on Human Rights is also conducting a parallel investigation on the incident placing one of two survivors under their custody while Cebu Archdiocese gave a "pastoral sanctuary" also.

Cebu Archbishop on Cebu killings: "Very Alarming"

With 14 deaths in a span of hours, Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma described the province's situation as "very alarming."  

He urged Cebuanos to continue praying "intensely" the Oratio Imperata to end the spate of killings in Cebu.

He also urged law enforcers to do their jobs in line with what is legal and moral.

Cebu Landslide evacuees suffer hypertension, respiratory infections

The DOH Central Visayas said the top illnesses faced by evacuees from the Naga City, Cebu landslide include respiratory infections, hypertension or high blood pressure, and diarrhea. 

High blood pressure may be due to the stress that evacuees underwent from the landslide on September 20.
