Blink TV app and its failure in Pacquiao livestream

This may be a late post since I just got off from months hiatus in blogging, but certainly an important review for Blink TV's entry into the Philippines via its partners from Smart Communications.

When it comes to its launch during latest Manny Pacquiao fight: an absolute failure. With its features providing TV streaming for NBA TV, 2nd Avenue, Jack TV, And ETC: it's two thumbs up!

During the Pacman fight last November, we subscribed to its P199 streaming using Sun Broadband internet. The cost totaled P250 actually because you need to subscribe to the unlimited internet i50 in order for the Blink TV app to connect to the net. Everything was going smoothly the night before as we watched its free TV channels to test the app. I enjoyed smooth streaming with Jack TV then.

On the day of the fight however, the network clogged up as we feared (and expected). Using an iPad, the stream for the Macau fight would not load up, it will only show scenes and freeze. But because those were still undercard fights, we had the time to download Blink app on android and try to see if it is much better there. Sadly, even worse.

Three hours of testing the app and minutes before the Pacquiao fight, we decided to drop the Blink App and got out a laptop to watch the fight via "underground" websites that shows the Pacquiao-Algeri bout. It is smooth streaming.

At the end of the day, we realized that we could just have subscribed to the i50 and watch the fight instead of subscribing to the useless P199 Blink TV promo. No refunds were made maybe it was a risk we took on ourselves and lessons we need to learn for future Pacquiao fights.

Maybe it is better to use the "pirated" websites because it is more reliable. The Sun Broadband internet had no problems because the internet connection was doing fine. It was only the BlinkTV app that ruined our day. The Blink servers should better learn that a Pacquiao fight is a Pacquiao fight they should expect clogged network.

Now, the Blink TV app is still on my iPad. I did not uninstall it because I can still watch some free channels over it. Keeping it however reminded me of the failure to provide their promised streaming of the Pacquiao fight. For Blink, there is still time for some improvements..perhaps in the still being arranged Mayweather bout.
